Drug Abuse Counseling

We provide drug abuse counseling in Broward County, Florida. This is a place to heal for individuals suffering from addiction. Drug abuse is one of the most devastating destructive forces in a person’s life and is best addressed with professional assistance.

Why People Abuse Drugs?

Many people first try drugs out of curiosity, to have a good time, because friends are doing it, or in an effort to improve athletic performance or ease another problem, such as stress, anxiety, or depression. Did you know that use doesn’t automatically lead to abuse? In fact, there is no specific level at which drug use moves from casual to problematic.

Does Drug Abuse Show Up The Same For Everyone?

It varies by individual. Drug abuse and addiction is less about frequency or amount of substance consumed and more related to the consequences of its use. No matter how often or how little you’re using, if its causing problems in your life – at work, school, home, or in your relationships – you likely have a drug abuse or addiction problem.

Our team at The Family Therapy Center in Broward County, FL is aware that the road to addiction differs from person to person. Your genes, mental health, family and social environment all play a role in addiction.

Risk Factors That Can Lead To Drug Addiction

  • Family history of addiction
  • Abuse, neglect, or other traumatic experiences in childhood
  • Mental disorders such as depression and anxiety
  • Early use of drugs
  • Method of administration — smoking or injecting a drug may increase its addictive potential
  • Ignoring drug abuse will ensure that the problem becomes worse.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long are therapy sessions?

Standard therapy sessions are 50-60 minutes in length.

How often do therapy sessions occur?

We find that therapy is most effective when sessions are scheduled on a weekly basis. As progress is achieved, there is greater time between sessions to build confidence in client’s ability to create change on their own.

How long does it take to obtain an appointment?

Our policy is to schedule an appointment in a week or less as long as your schedule permits.

Is it okay to ask for a different therapist if I/we aren’t comfortable?

Yes. The therapeutic experience is most effective when you are able to feel comfortable and connect with your therapist. So, we will gladly make adjustments to ensure that you are happy.

How much does a session cost?

Rates for counseling/therapy will vary based on the therapist and their level of training and expertise. Feel free to call our office at 954-436-1222 for pricing information specific to your needs.

Yes! Therapy absolutely works when experienced, caring, therapists work with motivated clients, who are willing to put time, energy, and effort into the therapeutic process.

As a matter of fact, Consumer Reports published an article with their conclusions after conducting an extensive independent survey of psychotherapy clients. A startling 90% of the 4,000 respondents reported that they were doing substantially better after treatment. What’s more, researchers found that individuals who were treated with psychotherapy alone achieved the same results as those treated with medication and therapy.
